IRT Nanoelec conference addresses cybersecurity at IRT Nanoelec

IRT Nanoelec held the fourth conference in its conference series, this one addressing cybersecurity at IRT Nanoelec.

The event brought in an impressive number of attendees. The speakers provided insights into the security issues affecting electronic components and systems.

In his opening remarks, Bruno Charrat, Director of the IRT Nanoelec PULSE program, highlighted the importance of component- and system-level security.

ANSSI’s (France’s National Information Security Agency) Stéphane Meynet talked about the key role of standards for secure digital systems. His key message: A secure system has to work even in the event of a cyberattack.

Grenoble Institute of Technology’s Yves Guido and Grenoble Ecole de Management’s François Trouillet gave an overview of the kinds of cybersecurity training organizations of all sizes should be doing. Their recommendations were based on an assessment of the needs of organizations.

David Hely of Grenoble Institute of Technology’s Esisar school pointed out the role students can play coming up with new ideas for the types of cybersecurity measures needed to counter system-level attacks.

Leti provided a research organization’s viewpoint, talking about the short-term challenges that need to be addressed. These include obtaining trust in both systems and chips and developing encryption protocols capable of fending off attacks. The longer-term challenges include rethinking processor architectures and data distribution. “The Internet of Nothing” represents a complete paradigm shift. Connecting nothing to the Internet would considerably reduce the risks of a cyberattack.

STMicroelectronics and Schneider Electric provided an industrial partner’s perspectives on IoT and other system-level vulnerabilities and talked about some of the solutions and practices they are using to stay safe.
