The training module on introduction to characterization through large-scale instruments has been adapted in digital format. Designed as part of Nanoelec, it was tested face-to-face in March 2020 for 25 doctoral students from the University of Grenoble Alpes.

On May 15, 2020, an experimental session in English of this format was offered remotely to the 40 students of the Nanotech master. Three engineers from ESRF and ILL joined forces to offer two introductory courses on the synchrotron and neutrons, both on the history and basic principles of synchrotron and neutron radiation and their interactions with matter, but also on certain specific neutron and X-ray techniques for the characterization of nanoelectronic materials and devices. They also presented some illustrations with case studies carried out by Nano Electronics Lab, on real research subjects. the students were offered to leran more on four case studies in order to make them work in groups of four on an experimental design that could solve a specific problem. The results of this study will be summarized in a report which will be evaluated by the engineers working within the module.
